The Gray-Haired Witnesses are a coalition of African-American women who come before the nation to call it to its highest potential as a democracy. We are remnants of struggles for peace and justice in the '60s and ' 70s, and we carry within us the people's victories and defeats. We remember segregation, and some of us lived through it. We remember the Southern Freedom Movement, and some of us participated in it. We witnessed the crossover into freedom, and someone of us continue to struggle because we realized that none of us are free until all of us are free. We come with the fires of freedom still burning in our hearts, mind, and deeds. We are Gray-Haired Witnesses following a tradition of non-violent struggle and demanding an end to oppression. We come prepared to put our bodies and selves on the line!
