HISTORY OF SPIRITHOUSE

SpiritHouse moved from a kitchen-table project to a leading national organization. We have emerged as a thoughtful, steady, reasoned, courageous, hopeful, and respected voice for democracy, justice, and non-violence. From its inception, SpiritHouse provided opportunities for grass-roots communities, youth, women, and people of all colors to work on economic, social, gender, and racial justice by building on their cultural and historical resources and networks.

Organizing for racial justice and creating racial dialogues stand at the center of SpiritHouse's work. SpiritHouse opened new and fertile ground in communities to address racism in a variety of communities, including the Mennonites, Quakers, African-American ordained and lay leaders, members of Black Voices for Peace, Every Church A Peace Church Conference attendees and members, NACCP members, college and university students, and in Episcopal churches around the nation.

In 2007, SpiritHouse moved most of its operations to the South.
